I have bought many of these Sony CD sets from various decades and genres and they have, until now, been excellent. This one however is something else. While most of the tracks are as expected, every now and then, even with my aged cloth ears, I say, "wait a moment!" I was so surprised that I actually dug out a couple of the originals to make sure. Roger Whittaker and Lynsey de Paul tracks are definitely not the hit versions. Some others too I believe. Disappointing.

As the decade of pop, punk, glam, prog and disco gets further and further away, it''s good to see the NOW brand produce a 70''s compilation. If you were around at the time, very few songs will feel ''forgotten'' but it''s good nonetheless to have the spotlight on them and the acts again especially for younger pop music lovers. At least an effort has been made to pick lesser played tracks by the likes of Slade, Sweet and Bay City Rollers. Curios from the decade such as Fox, Clout, Patsy Gallant, Flying Lizards and Yvonne Fair are always worth revisiting, motown and disco are well represented and major acts from the decade such as Gilbert O''Sullivan, Lynsey de Paul, The New Seekers and Smokie get well deserved entries. The overall tone veers a little too much to the middle of the road and avoids some of the big rockier tracks. Reggae also seems to have slipped through the net and, inevitably, a few tracks are not the hit single version, but these quibbles aside, it''s still a great value collection.

Having already given a comment from a previous owner of this set regarding some tracks not being Original Singles, I felt it only fare to balance it out.. Everything I have played appears to have been cleaned up, to the point as sounding crystal clear, almost vinyl like. I am only going to mention six tracks although I bought many from this set. Sailor - A Glass Of Champagne is how I remember first hearing on big headphones in stereo from Radio Two as the opening piano on the right speaker bounces out.. Driver 67 - Car 67 may as well be in the studio with them.. David Essex - Rock On MMmm, I didn''t buy this one, sorry. but have never heard it so good Melanie - Brand New was of course was in mono on the Buddah record, but some takes of this had an annoying distortion halfway through..Not this one. Pure clear sound, beautiful Finally having heard some of these tracks were not single takes Fox - Only You Can IS the single take. even some best of''s don''t have this.. Showaddywaddy - I Wonder Why again it fades out at the end just like the single..excellent
